It's always been my belief that you cannot put information in other people's heads. If you find a way to show them something, they can use their own intelligence to learn. This is my approach to teaching, trying to be both informative while allowing the students to find their own way of learning. I've spent the last 30 years teaching in various capacities. I've taught martial arts to kids and developed a curriculum that was geared specifically to enhance their development. I spent several years working with children suffering from autism and Asperger's -- trying to help them learn to deal with the world around them and to learn from their environment.

Finally, it was while helping a child that I was asked to work at the Toronto School Board. While I was there, I helped out with kids who were learning English, and my love of teaching ESL began. I then spent the next 18 years teaching English to some of the most amazing students on the planet in a private English school and eventually became the teacher administrator, helping to create one of the most dynamic team of teachers, helping thousands of students.

I joined a friend of mine to start a website to go global and help as many people as possible on YouTube, and we have done this for the last 15 years.

And now, I look forward to working with you at EMC!!

AP Program

Go further in the subjects that inspire you. Advanced Placement brings college-level study into high school, helping students build subject knowledge and prepare for more demanding academic work.

How AP works

AP is a College Board program covering subjects across languages, humanities, mathematics and sciences. Coursework develops skills associated with introductory college study. AP Exams report scores from 1 to 5; colleges and universities set their own requirements for credit and advanced placement.

Planned subjects

  • Chemistry
  • Physics 1
  • Physics C
  • Statistics
  • Calculus AB

Potential additions

  • English Literature and Composition

Build your AP study plan

01

Choose a suitable challenge

Match your interests and future study goals with your current subject knowledge. Review the recommended preparation for each course before enrolling.

02

Plan independent study

Set aside time for reading, problem solving and revision between lessons. Use your subject’s official Course and Exam Description to guide preparation.

03

Practise and reflect

Work through released AP questions and compare your answers with scoring guidance. Use the results to identify topics that need more attention.

Understanding AP Capstone

AP Capstone is a two-year pathway built around AP Seminar followed by AP Research. It develops evidence-based argument, research, teamwork and presentation skills.

A score of at least 3 in both courses earns the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. Scores of at least 3 in both courses and four additional AP Exams qualify for the AP Capstone Diploma. Ask EMC about availability before planning this pathway.

Course enrolment and exam registration

Plan course enrolment and exam registration separately. Confirm the exam location, registration deadline and applicable charges with the administering school or test centre.

Most AP subjects allow exam preparation without taking the course. AP Seminar, AP Research and AP Computer Science Principles have course or performance-task requirements, so exam-only study does not provide a complete score.

An AP result does not automatically award an Ontario high school credit. Confirm any OSSD course registration and credit requirements with EMC.

Prepare your foundation first

If advanced study feels like a large step, strengthen algebra, science and academic English first. Ask EMC about preparation options that match your current level.

Why consider AP?

Academic distinction

Show engagement with challenging study in applications.

College readiness

Practise deeper analysis, independent learning and subject skills.

Credit and placement

Qualifying scores may earn credit or placement, depending on the institution.

New interests

Explore subjects that can inform future study and career choices.

Academic record

AP can demonstrate course rigour; GPA weighting depends on school policy.

Confidence

Build confidence through sustained work on advanced material.

Program development background

EMC’s earlier AP announcement described Level 1 status, an application for Level 2 exam administration and ongoing curriculum preparation. That announcement anticipated a decision shortly after publication; it does not establish the school’s current authorisation.
